What is the NRV?

NRV stands for Nutritional Reference Value, an overall nutritional indicator which takes into consideration average needs (ANs), reference intakes for the population (RIP), adequate intakes (AI) and the reference intake ranges for macronutrients (RI).

These values tell professionals how much of a nutrient is needed for a healthy person or group of people to remain healthy. The NRVs also include the Tolerable Upper Intake Level (UL), which is the maximum amount of a nutrient that can be safely consumed over a long period of time. NRVs are intended for healthy people. Those with illnesses may have different needs.
